Winning at Online Stud Poker
Learn the Rules and Tips to Play Internet Stud Poker
Aim of Stud Poker
In Stud Poker, you pit your skills against the dealer and aim is to beat the dealer’s poker hand.
Before the cards are dealt, you place a bet (this is known as an Ante) and receive five cards. The dealer is dealt only one card.
Based on the dealer's one card and what you have in your hand, you must decide whether to increase your stake (bet) to win more or fold and minimise your loss. If you decide to bet on your hand, the dealer is dealt four more cards. The result now depends on the Poker value of your cards against the value of the dealer’s cards.
The Rules of Stud Poker
- To qualify, the dealer’s hand must have a King and an Ace to qualify. If it does not, you win; however, if you fold you lose your Ante whatever the dealer has.
- If you bet and the dealer does not qualify, you get double your Ante and your bet is returned.
- If the dealer’s hand does qualify (i.e. he has a King and an Ace) but you have a better hand, you will be paid out on your Bet (see payouts), with double your Ante on top!
- If the value of your hand and the dealer’s is exactly the same, the one with highest-ranking card will win.
- View the Poker Hands to familiarise yourself with the card combinations and their relative values.
